The most honourable veteran Bollywood actor Shammi Kapoor was born on 21 October 1931 in a Punjabi Khatri family. Shammi Kapoor was a prominent lead actor in Indian cinema during the late 1950s and 1960s. Shammi Kapoor was the second of the three sons born to Prithviraj Kapoor the other two being Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor.
Shammi Kapoor debuted in Bollywood in 1953, with the film Jeevan Jyoti and went on to deliver hits like Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Dil Deke Dekho, Junglee, Dil Tera Diwana, Professor, China Town, Rajkumar, Kashmir Ki Kali, Janwar, Teesri Manzil, An Evening in Paris, Bramhachari, Andaz and Vidhaata respectively. The actor has also received the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1968 for his performance in Brahmachari and Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Vidhaata in 1982. In 1974, Shammi donned the hat of a director and made Manoranjan, a movie which was based on Irma La Douce.
Two years later, he made Bandalbaaz in 1976. However, both the films failed at the box office. The actor was last seen in the much delayed 2006 movie, Sandwich. Recently he decided to act with Ranbir Kapoor in Imitiaz Ali's next movie but due to his illness he has been currently admitted in the hospital.
