Despite all the link-up rumours, Amrita Rao is insistent - she has never had a boyfriend. Not now, not before, not ever!
“I don’t want a relationship just for the heck of it. I’m the kind of girl who would get married to her first boyfriend. I believe that is the luckiest,” she says.
What she can’t fathom is why people find it so hard to believe. “I have friends, some of them are even living abroad, who are attractive little things but haven’t been in a relationship ever. They are my age and don’t have boyfriends. We’re young, attractive and don’t have boyfriends and it is okay!” she says.
Are her Bollywood innings also the result of such a thought out approach? “My journey in Bollywood has been an easy ride and I’ve been picked up for the best roles of my career miraculously. For Vivah, Sooraj Barjatya chose me based on my short performance in The Legend of Bhagat Singh.
Farah Khan took me in Main Hoon Na in a tearing hurry. I was the last girl she auditioned, and she was running out of time and asked me to join the team. Ishq Vishq was because of a commercial and all this good work led to only better work!” says Amrita, adding, “I’m appearing in Shortcut with Akshaye Khanna and Arshad Warsi, in which I’m glamming it up, Victory - a cricket-based film with Harman Baweja and Shyam Benegal’s Mahadev Ka Sujanpur this year.
And bagging the Benegal film has added to my CV as an actor. Just working with him makes me feel a part of the group that comprised Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil and Rekha.” And just what was it that made her journey a smooth ride? “That I have no godfathers and superstar boyfriends! I’ll do it alone. Slowly and steadily, I’ll make my way to being the number one heroine,” she answers.
Though Dia Mirza’s career is not really going through the best of its phase, there is no denying the fact that she is one of those rare Bollywood beauties who have a perfect face, perfect complexion and a perfect figure. This month Dia exudes her beauty on the covers of two magazines.
One is the cover of Jade Magazine - Run way to life for the month of July 2009 and the other one is for Marie Clarie where she appears wearing a green Roberto Cavalli on the cover. Dia tells Marie Claire that she’s doing some half a dozen movies with a plethora of offbeat roles. She reveals that that there’s Kaun Bola with Arshad Warsi, Acid Factory, Kisaan, Johnny Mastana with Rensil D’Silva, Alibaug and Fruit & Nut with Cyrus Brocha & Boman Irani.
Dia has all her hopes pinned on her upcoming releases and we wish too that the gal gets what she deserves!
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Best Feature: Her glowing, honeyed skin
Ash’s secret: “I drink hot water with lemon and honey to clear my skin every morning. But that’s not all! To ensure radiance I also use cucumbers to relieve the skin. And yes I firmly believe that eight glasses of water must be consumed so that all toxins leave the body and keep you feeling energetic.”
We think: Ash has slightly ratty hair, but the reason she models for Lux is clear: She looks fresh and beautiful any time of the day.
Shilpa Shetty
Best feature: Her international uber-slim look Kareena’s secret: “My current look is thanks to Bharat Thakur’s yoga classes. I’ve not gone on any big diet and haven’t stopped eating. Being vegetarian helps me have healthy and clear skin.”
We think: Kareena is easily the actress easiest on the eye. She could get a major Hollywood role and not need to change a thing to fit in. She’s the kind of long, lean beauty that most actresses want to be.
Celina Jaitley
Best feature: Celine herself says it’s “my glowing skin and long, shining hair”
Celina’s secret: “Eat lots of papaya, drink lots of water, keep a healthy state of mind. And no smoking or drinking! Lastly, the most important beauty tip is… yoga.”
We think: Yes, Celina has super hair but, as Ghalib told the man who asked him to quit drinking and love if he wanted heaven: “If I HAD drink and love I wouldn’t WANT heaven”.
Koena Mitra
Best feature: What may politely be called oomph.
Koena’s secret: “I work-out in the gym every day for an hour and a half. I ONLY make an exception if I’m shooting outdoors. Fitness is extremely important for me and I make sure I take time out to exercise. Fruits and salads are my favourite snack and I prefer to munch on a fruit whenever I’m hungry. Water is something that I don’t miss during the day. I drink lots of water to keep my fluid level high. Besides, it’s great for glowing skin.”
We think: Koena has a super body and one that she has had to work really hard for, not having the leanness of Kareena or the height of Shilpa. Now if only she could get her nose-job right. In the words of the immortal Rakhi Sawant: “Jo Bhagwan nahin deta, woh doctor deta hai.”
Tanushree Dutta and her parents are unlikely to forget March 26, 2007.
"We’ve been through hell, and back. My car is smashed to pieces due to mob fury. But what has happened to my dignity and selfrespect and my identity as a woman are irreparable," the shaken actress said on Thursday afternoon.
It all started when Tanushree was approached to do an item song for Rakesh Sarang’s Horn Ok Please.
"I made it clear to the producer director and choreographer Ganesh Acharya that I’m not a run-of-the-mill item girl. I was very particular about my clothes and movements. We rehearsed for nearly a week for the song. And now they’re saying I was uncooperative and not ready to rehearse."
What awaited Tanushree on the set was four days of horror. "From the start I wasn’t comfortable with Nana Patekar’s presence. In fact after the first day of shooting I told my mother something didn’t feel right there.
Nana had just three words O yara re in the song. Still he insisted on being around throughout. That was fine. He’s the film’s hero and it’s his prerogative. But then he started acting hugely aggressive.
Instead of the choreographer Nana started showing me the steps. I don’t know since we has become an expert dancer."
Tanushree made her displeasure at the actor’s intervention very clear. "A couple of times I pushed his hands away when he got too close for comfort. But it didn’t seem to make a difference to him.
He continued to direct my steps roughly and aggressively. Things got really out of hand when Ganesh incorporated steps where Nana could get physically close to me."
That’s when the actress chose to walk off the set and locked herself up in her van. "Not for three hours, as they reported on the tv channels. But for 90 minutes.
They called up Mr Pehlaj Nihalani to intervene and he told them to change the steps if being a girl they made me uncomfortable. I finally came out of my van…only to be told they won’t change the steps. Why? Was it Valmiki’s Ramayan that every word had to be faithful?
I think the poroducer, director and choreographer had decided to teach me a lesson. They threatened to call the media on the sets and proclaim I was uncooperative. I didn’t know how serious they were. Nana apparently had left by then."
Tanushree decided to leave too. "But my car with my parents in it was surrounded by hordes of tv journalists. When they couldn’t get a sound bite from me they pushed themselves into the front seat of my car.
When that didn’t work they began banging on the windshield with their cameras. My parents and I were trapped inside my car.
Anything could’ve happened. We frantically tried to call the producer and director. They had both switched off their mobiles."
Finally someone had the presence of mind to inform the cops. That’s when Tanushree and her parent’s nightmare ended.
The Duttas have lodged an FIR against those who allegedly attacked them in her car at the Goregaon police station.
"What I want to know is, where was the security at Filmistan studio when I was attacked? Where was the producer and director?
They’ve wasted no time in replacing me with Rakhi Sawant for the song and labeling me uncooperative. But why did they realize how unprofessional I was on the fourth day?
Can they get others in the film industry to accuse me of undisciplined behaviour? Or did they think they could mess with me and manhandle me just because I’m a girl?"
Television actress Shveta Salve says her bikini photo shoot for lifestyle magazine Maxim’s cover page highlights her real self.
"If you have followed me, I have not been one of those typical sari clad ’bahus’ (daughters-in-law). The shoot done for Maxim is nothing new. Wearing a bikini is not new for me. I am like that in real life also," Shveta told IANS on phone from Mumbai.
The actress was touted as the Madhuri Dixit of Indian television as she serenaded a million hearts with her perfect moves in Sony TV’s reality dance show "Jhalak Dikhla Jaa".Now Shveta is all set to play the lead in Dharmesh Darshan’s "Bhanvraa" and says her career has just started.
"It is a romantic film about the youth of today who are rebellious in nature. Though I cannot divulge any details about the kind of role I am doing, I would just say that it is a typical Dharmesh Darshan movie."
In the film, she is starring opposite television actors Ejaz Khan, Manav Gohil and Sangeeta Ghosh. At the moment, Shveta is not looking forward to doing any specific roles."Being an actor, I will do all kinds of roles. There is no specific genre I am looking at, but the role should be challenging and should interest my creative talent," she said.
The actress hasn’t worked in any TV soaps for the past two years, but was off and on seen in dance shows like "Ustaadon Ke Ustaad" and "Nachle Ve with Saroj Khan".She says: "Reality shows give you a chance to portray your actual self on television, unlike in a serial where you are fixed to a particular role, and are a lot more fun besides lasting only a short while."
Apart from reality shows, she has exhibited her acting prowess in serials like "Hip Hip Hurray", "Kitty Party", "Left Right Left" and "Lipstick".
Mona has been exclusive in selecting work thereafter. She has appeared only in reality shows and shunned TV Soaps. She has also grown in stature by hosting a number of Awards functions and Bollywood events. She will now be hosting a reality show on makeovers.
Mona Singh is waiting for the perfect launch in Bollywood. On being asked about acting in movies this is what she had to say “I’ve got some good scripts. Let’s see. Movies is unknown territory, I want to be very careful and make the right decision. I’m not a star kid who’ll get a second chance!”.
Mugdha Godse is not a new name in the scene of ramps, but the debut movie of this hot model is yet to hit the screens. Talking about sexy Mugdha Godse, the gal is making a debut with Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Fashion’ and even before the movie hits the screens, Mugdha bags in a three-film deal with Percept Pictures Company.
The best part of this deal is that Mugdha is free to work outside the deal. Giving in more details about the contract, Godse said, “The films that I am doing with PPC would have me in a lead-lead kind of a role. Also, since the production house has 10-15 films in the pipeline, the role that I would eventually end up doing would be by mutual consent between me and the director. I should like the film and the director should also find me suitable enough for the part.”
Where other newcomers make their presence felt in Bollywood with their romances and controversies, not much has been said about Mugdha in the gossip columns. Explaining the reason, Mugdha says, “Don’t be surprised because that’s the way I function. That’s not my style. For some it may be a way to keep making headlines but I would rather have everything firmly in place before I let people know about it.”
So, here we have one lady who prefers to let her work speak for her. Hope her debut reveals the best of her hidden talents!!
