Johnny Walker


Born in Srinagar, India on 15 May 1923 as Badruddin Jamaluddin Kazi, Johnny Walker was considered as the best comedian of the Bollywood industry, who acted in over 300 flicks.

Actor and script-writer Balraj Sahni caught Johnny walker's attention in 1950 while he was once traveling in a B.E.S.T. bus on which Badruddin (Johnny), was working as a conductor.

At that time Balraj Sahni was writing the script for the flick, Baazi (1951), and introduced Badruddin Jamaluddin Kazi to Guru Dutt as a candidate for the role of a comedian. Badruddin was asked to give a screen test of a drunken, and he did it so well that Guru Dutt gave him the screen name, "Johnny Walker", after the famous Scotch whisky brand.

Johnny Walker during the 70s till the 90s, had a few small roles in movies. His last performance was in actor-turned-director Kamal Hasan's Chachi 420 in 1998; where he had performed at the request of musician-director-writer Gulzar who had scripted that movie. Some of his memorable films includes names like Taxi Driver, Mr. & Mrs.'55, C.I.D., Chori Chori (1956), Pyaasa (1957), Naya Daur and so on.

This great actor was also honoured with the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in Madhumati and Filmfare Best Comedian Award for his role in Shikar.
