Iftekhar Khan


Iftekhar Khan who was born in Mumbai in the year 1922 has been always known for his roles as police officers in several films. Iftekhar Khan made his acting debut in 1937, with film "Qazzak Ki ladki" and acted in over 200 films in a career that spanned from the 50s through to the early 90s.

Iftekhar Khan had been a lead actor in his youth during the 'golden age' of Bollywood in the 1940s and 1950s. Iftekhar's roles ranged from father, uncle, grandfather, police commissioner, courtroom judge, police officer and doctor.

Generally Iftekhar Khan was seen playing sympathetic characters, but on occasion he played the heavy one too. One of his most memorable role was seen in Amitabh Bachchan's corrupt industrialist mentor in Yash Chopra's classic "Deewaar" that was released in 1975. Read more on horoscope of Amitabh Bachchan.

Another of Iftekar's classic roles was as the police inspector in Parkash Mehra's "Zanjeer". Iftekar Khan also had character roles in many of the classics of 1960s and 70s Bollywood cinema, Bimal Roy's Bandini, Raj Kapoor's Sangam, Manoj Kumar's Shaheed, Teesri Manzil, Jonny Mere Naam, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Don, "The Gambler", and "Sholay" and many more.

Apart from Hindi cinema the actor had also appeared in two episodes of the American TV series Maya in 1967 as well the English language films Bombay Talkie (1970) and City of Joy (1992). The actor died on 4 March 1995.
