Rajesh Khanna - The biography

Rajesh Khanna was born on December 29, 1942 in Amritsar. Rajesh's real name is Jatin Khanna. He is an Indian Bollywood thespian and laureate of the Dada Saheb Phalke Legend Golden Actor Award,winner in 2008. Rajesh has also served a five year tenure as an MP in the Indian parliament (1991-1996). Also known as Kaka, he has been termed "perhaps the first Superstar of the Indian film industry"

Rajesh Khanna married actress Dimple Kapadia in March, 1973. The couple got divorced. In 1966, Khanna joined the film industry after winning an All India Talent Contest making his film debut in Aakhri Khat, which went unnoticed.

Rajesh Khanna was an extremely popular star of the 1970s. Kaka usually appeared in romantic melodramas, where he was often paired with Mumtaz or Sharmila Tagore.

Some of his successful films include Aradhana, Sachaa Jhutha, Haathi Mere Saathi, Amar Prem, Do Raaste, Anand, Avtar and Souten. From 1969 to 1973, Rajesh had 15 consecutive hits. Several of the popular songs sung by Kishore Kumar in the 1970s were picturised on Khanna and helped his films become successful.

In 1969, Rajesh Khanna achieved overnight stardom with Shakti Samantha's Aradhana, in which he played a dual role of father and son. He became the craze of the nation, the first actor to be known as No. 1 superstar of Hindi films and remained so for next six years.

During 1991-1996, Rajesh Khanna was a Member of Parliament for the Congress Party, from the New Delhi constituency.

In 2001-2002, Khanna played major roles in two TV serials Aapne Parai (B4U and DD Metro) and Ittefaq (Zee TV). He is the winner of six awards and was nominated for about a dozen.
